Father's Day Weekend
I know, I know...I'm a little later than usual getting this post up. It's finals week, yet again...so I am busy as a little bee trying to get my work done. Sigh. In fact, I should be finishing up one of my papers now instead of posting this. But, if I don't get it up now, it may never happen. :0) And, since this blog will go down in history {once I get it transferred to a book} I need to make sure that I keep up.
On Saturday morning we went over to my mom's house to visit as my sister, Melanie, came to visit for the holiday. My kids have been dying to see their cousins. Dear Shelby humored my Mackenzee and read her story after story. This is one of Mackenzee's favorite things to do now. All of the books on the bookshelf in the playroom end up on the floor as she "reads" through each of them telling her own little stories based on the pictures. It's awesome.
As it was Father's Day weekend....golfing was on the brain {also because the US Open was on}. Jaysen bought a package of spongey like golf balls so that he and my dad and Stephen could play a little "yard" golf. They set up fake holes around the house and played 9 holes.
I set up the slip and slide for the kids and they had a grand time racing each other to the end.

And to end the night....we helped Papa plant his Father's Day present. I won't go into details...but big trees are heavy. Just so you know. But, we did it! And now my dad has his big oak tree in the yard. Though...we tied a blue ribbon around it...not a yellow one. :0)

Getting my scrap ON!
On Friday morning I ran away to my mom's house for a three day scrap-a-thon with her and my sisters. No kids....no hubbies...just girls, scrapping, gabbing, and food.

Here's me and my sisters and my mommy. In order...me, my mom, my OLDER sister {in green}, my younger sister, and my sis-in-law.
We all had a fabulous time scrapbooking and chatting and eating naughty food. It was great! I got 21 pages done! Are you impressed? Sadly, this doesn't even come close to putting a dent in my pictures to scrap...but alas, such is the life of a scrapper. :0)

Pajama Party Time!
But not the kind you are thinking of. Though there was a screaming girl {Mackenzee}, music {from a movie}, dancing {to the music in the movie}, and popcorn...there was no dress up, or painting nails, or any such things that happen a GIRLY pajama party. This was strictly for BOYS.
Except for me and Mackenzee of course. Who else was going to fix dinner? :0)
Landon has been impatiently waiting for school to get out so that he could have his cousins come over for a slumber party. So, we had them over last night. It was crazy!
We had air hockey tournaments going on. After a while, the boys thought that one puck was too boring, so they played with two....and then added a third one. They are crazy!
And then, of course, there was much playing of the video games. Jaysen was awesome and
went and got a fourth Wii-mote so that all the boys could play, and also brought home a second guitar for our Guitar Hero game. We've been wanting one of those for a while now. Mackenzee was thrilled to see that we could put a pink cover on it, and it has now become "her" guitar. She did share, though the boys weren't too thrilled to have to play on a pink guitar. :0)
Mackenzee loved having the boys here just as much as Landon did. She clung to Kaden and they were such good playmates for each other.
I don't know what time they ended up going to
bed last night. They were given the "final warning" at about 11:00, and then Jaysen and I went to bed. I'm too old to stay up later than that! :0) They camped out in the tv room all snuggled up together on the floor. And, of course, woke up at the crack of dawn. I am one tired mommy right about now...but they had so much fun playing together. It's so fun having cousins that live close! We only wish that all of them could!

Play that funky music
Tonight was Landon's piano recital. This is something he has been stressing over for a while. He
has played in two other recitals, however, the first one he played in he conned his teacher {my mom} into letting him use his music even though he didn't need it, and the second one didn't require memorization. This year, he was given the warning that no amount of pleading to his Nana would work. He had his pieces perfect. But, he still wanted to go and have a piano lesson today JUST IN CASE. This could have been a free week for him! You'd think he'd take a week off? Nope. He had to squeeze one more time in to make sure he had it just right.
This afternoon {5 hours till the recital} he asked me what would happen if he got sick. Would he still have to go to the recital? His mean mom told him that even if he threw up, he was playing at the recital. :0)
Two hours later he pleaded for his music. His mean mom told him he didn't need it. He had his pieces memorized PERFECT.
My son takes after his mommy. When we stress...it seriously affects our tummies. {too much information?} My poor son was in the potty for a while after he began to realize he was really going to have to go through with it. :0(
Landon was third on the list of kids playing the piano. He saw that some of the other kids only had to play one piece. He was mad. "How come they only have to play one and I have to play two?!" Honestly, my mom was only going to have him play one, because she knew how stressed he got at recitals. But, she had given him the 'Star Wars Theme' for a fun song to play a few months back thinking it would be something that would challenge him and he LOVED it. So much so, that he began to memorize it on his own. So, she had him play it as well for the recital. Anyway....the first child begins to play and he starts begging again.
Landon: "What if I throw up on the piano?"
Me: "Well, I guess you'll just have to go play on the other one then."
L: "What if I throw up on that one too?"
M: "We'll clean it off and you can start all over again."
Aren't I just the meanest? What worse is that he takes after me. So I completely understand his fear. We are perfectionists. And honestly...if we can't do it right...it's not worth doing at all right? And goodness knows we can't let people know we could actually mess up!
I feel for this boy. But, I know if he isn't pushed to do things outside of his comfort zone, he could end up being scared to do EVERYTHING. I don't want that for him. Besides...he plays beautifully. I have to show him off right? :0)
The second child got up to play, and he is whispering his pleadings in my ear now. "PUH-lease mom! What if I mess up? What if I forget the song?"
I continue to reassure him. The second girl finishes and as the audience claps, he tells me he's not getting up there. I tell him he will play great and to not worry about it. He gives me a frightened look, and stands up.
Can I just tell you what an awesome job he did? Yes, he missed a note in the first song, and had a minor error in the second...but he kept going and finished each song fabulously. He did it! I'm so proud! And honestly...I'm relieved. Because as nervous as he was....I was three times as nervous for him. I played each song in my head as he played it on the piano. His staccato's were magnificent....and his last note of 'Indian Dance' was as fortisimo as his skinny little arms could play it.
His reward? Cold Stone! Yes, we went and ate really fattening ice cream with Jaysen's parents and my mom. Thanks to Rita and Perry, and my Grams and Gramps for coming to the recital. It meant a lot to Landon that you were there.
